The core is chemically formed from biocompatible, biodegradable materials. Once cleared by the liver, NaNots and their captured targets break down safely, with no longterm accumulation.
Nanobodies provide target specificity — and can be swapped to address new diseases without redesigning the platform. Further specificity for the soluble form of the target is achieved by the Polymeric Porous Shield.
A porous shield layer immobilized on the core inhibits contact between capture agents and cell surface receptors, ensuring selectivity for soluble targets. Other benefits: reduction/elimination of off-target toxicity & blocking of B-cell access to capture agents, preventing anti-drug antibodies.
NaNots also incorporate a stealth layer, designed to slow NaNot clearance by liver macrophages until the target capture process is complete.
